The subscription terms of use agreed to before purchasing the service provide full details of the circumstances in which a customer is eligible for a refund. Following is a brief summary of these circumstances, as well as scenarios which do not meet eligible criteria.
Eligible Refund Criteria
- There has been a material change to the service and you contact us within 30 days of receiving the change notification and request the unused portion of the subscription be refunded
- Your domain name exceeds the size that can be successfully queried during the subscription period in which case the remaining portion of the unused subscription can be refunded
Ineligible Refund Criteria
- You've changed your mind after making the purchase
- You made a purchase but then didn't use the service
- You were unaware the subscription would renew
- You intended to cancel the subscription but it renewed before doing so
We do our best to mitigate the chances of someone inadvertently taking out or renewing a subscription by doing the following:
- Reflecting the price and renewal cadence on the HIBP website on both the API key and domain search pages
- Again listing the price and renewal cycle on the Stripe payment page at the time of card entry
- Sending an email in advance of any renewals advising up the upcoming billing cycle
- Sending an invoice and receipt immediately upon successful payment
- Explicitly stating that subscriptions will automatically renew in the terms of use that must be agreed to before a subscription is taken out: "Your Subscription Period will automatically renew for an additional period of the same length unless you cancel your Subscription prior to the end of the then current Subscription Period."
To cancel your subscription, head over to either the API key page or the domain search page, verify your email address then click the button to access the Stripe customer portal where you will see the option to cancel the existing subscription.
